The health and safety of employees, students and the general public are the highest priority of Canadian universities and colleges. Emergencies on campus can be of many types, ranging from environmental spills, to violent behaviour, to pandemics. Institutions must be ready for all of them. Their response priorities will include the safety of the University community and the public, environmental protection, asset protection, restoration of essential services, and restoration of business operations among others.
Although highly interdisciplinary with most services having to play a role in Emergency Planning, the leadership is often assumed by risk managers. Within CAUBO, leadership on this issue has been delegated to the Risk Management Committee.
